No-Gi grappling

No-Gi Grappling in Leichhardt

Develop fast-paced grappling skills without the traditional gi — wrestling, submissions and real-world application. No-gi is speed and scrambles: fewer grips, more movement, and a style of grappling that transfers directly to MMA and self-defence.

Classes are coached by head coach Hayden Limebeer, whose 300+ matches span both gi and no-gi divisions, including MMA competition representing Australia. Expect wrestling-heavy warmups, sharp positional work and live rounds every session.

We're a gi-first academy — most members train both, and the combination makes each style better.

Questions

Good questions, straight answers.

What do I wear for no-gi?

A rash guard (or fitted t-shirt) and grappling shorts or leggings — no pockets, no zips. Clean gear every session.

Should beginners start with gi or no-gi?

Either works — we recommend starting gi-first because the grips slow the game down and build technique, but plenty of members fall in love with no-gi first. Unlimited membership covers both.

Is no-gi good for MMA?

Yes — no-gi grappling is the grappling base of modern MMA, and our head coach has competed in MMA at international level.

How rough are the live rounds?

As rough as you want them. Rounds are matched by experience and intensity, and coaches watch the room — new grapplers roll with trusted partners first.
